While a flock of Filipinos flee to Sacred Heart Catholic Church for the 9 day 5am early feat to complete the Simbang Gabi as Christmas approaches, the Bahrainis are on a holiday for their version of holy week. While the Christmas spirit for the Filipinos and other Christmas-celebrating nationalities bring glee and cheerful faces, it is downtime for most of Bahrain. Shops are closed, there are black cloths scattered all around, and they have their own version of flagellating their backs like our own pasyon.
It is total extremes of mood in the country. Just the beauty of differences in culture and tradition, we get to taste variety and something odd and new! Thank God or Allah for continental differences!
